EDUCATION
No Vouchers. Period.
Vouchers are a billionaire-backed scam, subsidizing wealthy private schools by siphoning taxpayer dollars from public schools – all in an effort designed by the ultra-wealthy to separate rich families from the rest of us – particularly students with disabilities and those most at risk of graduating.
Fully Fund Texas Public Schools
We can ensure that Texas becomes the gold standard in public education with the funds being held hostage by vouchers by passing the “Fully Fund Our Future Act”:
-
a $15,000 raise for full-time teachers, librarians, counselors, and nurses, effective for the current school year;
-
a $5,500 raise for all other public school employees who aren’t administrators or paid more than $100,000 a year;
-
a $2,787 increase to per-student funding in the basic allotment starting next school year;
-
an automatic yearly increase to the basic allotment tied to inflation, beginning in the 2026-2027 school year;
-
additional state resources to erase the gap in school security and special education funding; and
-
an $800 per student one-time grant to address pandemic related learning loss.
COMMON-SENSE GUN SAFETY
Raise the Age to 21 and Safe Storage Laws
Texas is the number one mass shooting capital of America, and gun violence is the number one killer of Texas children.
We must prioritize common-sense, bipartisan gun safety measures, such as raising the minimum age requirement for the carrying of certain weapons from 18 to 21 through the “21 por 21” bill, and addressing gun-owner responsibility through safe storage laws.
This enjoys broad bipartisan support; a poll conducted by the Texas Politics Project found that safe storage laws are supported by 76% of all voters – and 64% of Republican voters.
REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS AND HEALTHCARE
Texans are living in the fallout of the Supreme Court Dobbs v Jackson decision. Across the country, we have seen this decision snowball into the world of IVF access for families struggling with fertility. We are observing historic levels of teen pregnancy due to policed access to contraceptives.
We must restore the reproductive freedoms of Texans by supporting legislation that will:

expand Medicare
-
protect providers and recipients of IVF services
-
allow people under the age of 18 to consent to birth control
-
protect abortion access for victims of rape and incest
Simply put: we must block billionaire-backed, taxpayer-funded voucher scams for wealthy private schools.
Texas Republicans have a plan to transform Texas into a model for the authoritarian governance outlined in Project 2025.
WHAT DOES THE SPEAKER DO?
The Speaker is the presiding officer of the House of Representatives, and controls which bills move forward and which ones die.
The Speaker of the House is responsible for:

maintaining order during floor debate, recognizing legislators who wish to speak, and ruling on procedural matters
-
appointing the membership of each standing committee (subject to rules on seniority) and designating the chair and vice chair for each committee
-
referring all proposed legislation to committee
-
appointing conference committees, create select committees, and direct committees to conduct interim studies when the legislature is not in session

I’m State Representative Ana-María Rodríguez Ramos, and I’m running to be the next Speaker of the Texas House to give every Texan a fair shot.
As a mother, and as the daughter of Mexican immigrants, I know what it’s like to live the American Dream. But, I’ve seen firsthand the opportunities robbed from Texans after a quarter-century of Republican control.
